Oyster Shell
Bocce Ball courts are covered with a 3-inch playing surface. There are a few very popular methods for doing this;
1. A mixture of oyster shell 75% and 25% oyster shell flour
( this method very difficult and requires a lot of work over months to get compacted )
2. Pure oyster shell flour ( this method is the most difficult and requires a lot of work over months to get compacted )
3. A blended mixture of oyster shell, oyster shell flour, and decomposed granite. The rate is typically 1 ton of blended material per 100 per square feet. This is the most attractive economical and least difficult to install of the three oyster shell material surfaces.

Oyster Flour

After, and that is the key point since there is a great deal of confusion on this, the installation of the oyster shell and D. G. blend playing surface a layer of finely crushed oyster shell flour is often applied. This is done at the rate of 1/4 to 1/2 pound per square foot.

    The square foot coverage of Bocce Court Pro Oyster Shell Flour is about 1/4 to 1/2 pound per square foot of playing surface.

    Oyster shell flour plays a crucial role in constructing a bocce ball court. It is typically spread evenly over the court's surface to create a smooth, level, and consistent playing area. The fine texture of the oyster shell flour ensures a soft yet stable surface that allows bocce balls to roll smoothly and predictably. It also aids in moisture management by providing excellent drainage, preventing water buildup on the court, and reducing the risk of surface irregularities. Moreover, oyster shell flour adds an appealing, natural aesthetic to the court, enhancing the overall playing experience.

    On average,
    • one ton of oyster shell flour can cover approximately 100 to 120 square feet when applied at a depth of 1 inch depth.
    • For one yard (cubic yard) of oyster shell flour, you can expect to cover roughly 300 to 360 square feet at 1" depth.
